Electricity workers have suspended the ongoing strike action for two weeks.
This follows a meeting by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige on Wednesday, in Abuja.
“Following an emergency meeting between the union, government, and other stakeholders, at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige,” a statement from the Head, Press and Public Relations of the ministry reads.
A tripartite committee has been set up by Dr Chris to look into the grievances of electricity workers towards address them.
According to the statement, the union’s Secretary-General, Joe Ajaero, has “assured the minister that all necessary steps would be taken to restore the supply of electricity to the country immediately”.
At the end of the three-hour-long meeting, the workers expressed optimism that the government will listen to the voice of reasoning and priotise their wellbeing.
