Nigeria will support the National Security Sector Reform in the ECOWAS region for lasting peace and political stability, according to Zubairu Dada, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.
He made the remarks on Monday in Abuja, at a 4-day workshop on ECOWAS Security Sector Reform and Governance.
He explained that the operations of non-state players around the sub-region, particularly in the Gulf of Guinea, were causing political instability, which required strong collaboration to confront.
The Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union Delegation to ECOWAS, Alexandria Gomes, stated that the workshop would strengthen member States in their ability to manage conflicts and security concerns in the region.
Dr. Uju Agomoh, the Regional Director of the Africa Security Sector Reform Network, said coordination among state actors is essential to maintaining security reforms and supporting peace in the area.
