Buhari inaugurates power substation in Akwa Ibom

President Muhammadu Buhari has performed a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of 2×30/40MVA substation in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

President Buhari said the substation worth 6.8 billion naira would improve power generation and supply to the people of the area.

The President represented by the Minister of State for Power, Prince Goddy Jeddy-Agba said the 2x30MVA substation was in fulfillment of his campaign promises to Akwa Ibom people.

He said the contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction of 2×30/40MVA substation was awarded in favour of M/S Jamec West Africa Ltd with a completion period of 18 months.

The President gave assurance that the project would improved service delivery and strengthen the national grid by increasing its wheeling capacity to 25, 000MW by 2025.

Governor Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the State Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Mr John Etim, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the project.

The facilitator of the project and former Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, said the project when completed would enhance economic growth of the people, as small scale businesses would spring up due to availability of regular power supply

Senator Enang charged people of the area to protect the project, cooperate with the contractors to complete the contract within stipulated time for the benefit of the community.
