Court Sentences Hanifa’s Killer, Tanko, To Death By Hanging

A Kano State High Court has sentenced Abdulmalik Tanko, the kidnapper and killer of five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar to death by hanging.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Usman Na’abba gave the order while delivering his judgment on Thursday.

Justice Na’abba also convicted Tanko to five years imprisonment for four count charges leveled against him.

Recall that the trio of Abdulmalik (Proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School) alongside his accomplice, Hashim Isyaku and Fatima Jibrin were arraigned before the court by the Kano State government on five count charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, confinement and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 274, 277, 221 of the penal code.

To prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt, the prosecution team, led by Kano State Attorney-General, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, presented eight witnesses, as well as provided 14 exhibits.The witnesses include the mother of the deceased, Murja Suleiman Zubair, DSS Operatives who arrested Abdulmalik, and Police officers, who investigated the case.

The exhibit provided confessional statements of the convicts, hijab, photographs of the deceased and Islamic school badges and many more.

Justice prevailed as the court passed the judgment.
