The decision of the National Broadcasting Commission NBC to shut down broadcast stations that have not renewed their operation licenses has been put on hold.
This came as a result of a meeting that the commission had with the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, and other stakeholders in the industry, according to a statement by the Director General of the Commission, Mallam Balarabe Ilelah.
Mallam Balarabe stated that the commission had gotten positive reactions from the affected stations in the wake of the shutdown warning.
He thanked BON, and the broadcast stakeholders, in particular DAAR Communications LTD and Silver Bird TV/Rhythm FM, for their responses.
Mallam Balarabem said the Commission was aware of the problems that the shutdown must have caused for the industry’s operators and other stakeholders; but added that NBC would always work within the confines of the NBC Act Cap N11, laws of the Federation 2004.
NBC had issued a shutdown notice to licensees that are indebted to the commission.
