The Osun State Governorship election petitions tribunal, has nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of the state.
In its ruling on Friday, the tribunal declared Gboyega Oyetola, as the validly elected governor of the state.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Adeleke defeated Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 16, 2022 poll in the state.
With 403,371 votes to Oyetola’s 375,027, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced Adeleke the winner.
Former Governor Oyetola filed an appeal at the tribunal contesting the proclamation of Adeleke as the election’s winner because he was dissatisfied with the electoral umpire’s decision.
He argued for the election’s annulment, citing, among other things, allegations of overvoting, irregularities in some voting booths, and the veracity of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate produced by the PDP candidate.
